Gothenburg Horse Show, Day 5
IT WAS 8:30 IN THE MORNING AND ALREADY THE SWEDES WERE RUSHING TO THEIR SEATS TO WATCH THEIR FAVOURITE RIDERS COMPETE IN THE MORNING CLASS (NO. 10) PRESENTED BY VOLVO.
First to go was Qatar’s Sheikh Ali Al Thani and Sieshof’s Abraksas who jumped clear in 58.52 seconds. Only a couple more followed but without any clears until the crowd’s favourite Rolf-Goran Bengtsson and Corcega La Silla electrified the spectators who have nothing but utter adoration for him with a clear round in 51.20 seconds.
Less clear rounds followed those of Al Thani and Bengtsson until it was time for Nayel Nassar to jump with his World Cup horse Raging Bull Vangelis. Nassar and Lordan were placed 3rd in Day 3 of the Show, also 5th in Day 4 and apparently, Vangelis must have felt a little jealous from his little friend and decided to accept an “awakening” from Nassar.
The two trotted into the Gothenburg Horse Show arena and again, flawlessly cleared in 53.01 seconds. Nassar said, “I jumped the best round I could ever jump during the The Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping Final II, but Vangelis was not up for the task that day. This is the sport; the horses are with you on a day or against you the following one. There are no what ifs now, I am pleased I came here and competed well and next up I will be heading to a show in Drammen, Norway.”
Ludger Beerbaum and Crespo couldn’t beat Nassar’s and Bengtsson’s time, and neither could Marcus Ehning and Cambel nor several others out of 24 starts. This left the Swedish crowd thrilled with Bengtsson’s first place win and plenty of admiration and felicitations for the young rising talent Nassar second place win. Katherine Dinan and Glory Days were placed third, Beerbaum fourth, and Al Thani fifth.
