And now it’s time for the British Open, the second in the high-goal polo triad, currently being held at Cowdray Park Polo Club. It’s full and proper name is the ‘Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the British Open Championships’. In the final preliminary match today heading into the quarterfinals, we watched Rashid Albwardy’s Team Dubai (Tommy Beresford, Diego Cavanagh, Adolfo Cambiaso, Alastair Paterson) soundly wallop the mighty Zacara (Facundo Pieres, Lyndon Lea, Gonzalo Deltour, Matt Perry) by the incredible score of 14 to 8. That’s right, the world # 1 Cambiaso met the world #2 Pieres on the field mano a mano and what a match! It broke Zacara’s stunning 22-game winning streak and sets Dubai up as the new tournament favourite.
