GERCO SCHRODER GRABS GRAND PRIX OF THE LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR IN VIENNA

Dutchman Gerco Schroder pulled off a cracking Grand Prix win at the 11th leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour in Vienna.

Gerco and his Olympic silver medal winning champion London produced three high calibre clear rounds in the spectacular arena in the Austrian capital winning the €100,000 first prize and 40 ranking points. Gerco beat fellow countryman Harrie Smolders on Jackson Hole into second place with Rolf-Goran Bengtsson on Casall in third place and Luciana Diniz making a great effort to win but finishing fourth.

Frank Rothenberger’s first round course proved to be deceptively tricky.Though there were no ‘bogey’ fences, a few obstacles dashed the hopes of many riders. Time was tight resulting in a number of riders finishing with an agonising one time fault and many others with an unlucky four faults.

It is high stakes at the top of the Ranking at the penultimate leg of the series. There is all to play for at the top of the leader board with only 25 points separating the top six riders. The Tour Final in Doha in November looks set to be a real climax to the 2013 season.
