GERMANY LEADS & SCHOCKEMÖHLE SHINES: FEI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AACHEN 2026
We started the second day of the FEI Jumping World Championships in Aachen with 137 riders under a sunny sky. It was again a day full of surprises and a tough round with obstacles set at a height of 1.65m. There were fewer falls and eliminations than yesterday.
Ibrahim Barazi and Ibrahim Hani Bisharat both had outstanding clear rounds for Jordan as individual riders. Barazi went clear with the 12-year-old KWPN-bred stallion Joie de Vigo R.T. (Vigo d’Arsouilles – United II x Cassini I, breeder: R. Tel), and Bisharat went clear again with Lesther (Glenfiddich VDL – Blisther x Farmer, breeder: J. Moerings).
FOUNDATION BY PAUL SCHOCKEMÖHLE
The 11-year-old OS-bred gelding Chacareno PS (Chacco-Blue - Casarena x Calvaro Z), competing under the saddle of Emanuele Camilli, jumped clear on both the first and second day. Emanuele Camilli reflects: “Chacareno has all the capacity in the world.” This horse comes from one of Paul Schockemöhle’s special damlines. This line traces back to the Holsteiner mare Olivia by Logenschliesser, who was born in 1952 and jumped at the highest level for Germany with Sönke Sönksen. She was sold to the Empain family in France before Paul Schockemöhle bought her back with a filly to return to Germany. Here, he built up the line that also produced Enjoy de la Mure and his full brother Mr. Boombastic, both bred by Béatrice Drigeard Desgarnier. Paul Schockemöhle bred Carmen, his grandmother Sazarina by Sandro, and great-grandmother Grazie by Gepard. Mr. Boombastic was listed as a reserve for the USA with Natalie Dean. The 12-year-old stallion Enjoy de la Mure (Vigo Cece – Carmen x Calvados) went clear on the first day and had an unlucky rail on the second day for the UAE under the saddle of Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi. He reflects: “It was a good course. I think Enjoy de la Mure jumped really well, and I am very happy with him. We were just unlucky with one rail down. Enjoy de la Mure has his own routine; he is a special horse and he gets special treatment.”
Yesterday, Paul Schockemöhle had 13 horses he bred competing in the first round under the name of his breeding farm, Gestüt Lewitz.
DYNASTIE DE BEAUFOUR
Nina Mallevaey for France logged her second clear round on the second competition day with her special mare Dynastie de Beaufour (Diamant de Semilly – Sophia di San Giovanni DXB x Cassini I), bred by Eric Levallois. Levallois was part of the gold medal-winning French team at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera in 2002 aboard the sire of Dynastie de Beaufour, Diamant de Semilly. Nina Mallevaey reflects: “She jumped amazingly again, she actually felt better than yesterday. She gave me an amazing feeling.”
The Holsteiner-bred stallion Cassini I (Capitol I – Wisma x Caletto II, breeder: Johann Hermann Claussen) did a marvellous job as a damsire; he has three horses in this class, and all three went clear. Along with the earlier mentioned stallion Joie de Vigo R.T., the 12-year-old BWP-bred mare Out of the Blue SCF (Verdi TN – Casa Blanca La Silla) went clear on the second day under the saddle of Katherine A. Dinan for the USA. Cassini I jumped at the highest level under the saddle of Franke Sloothaak.
THE GERMAN QUEEN AND KINGS OF AACHEN, LEADING AGAIN ON THE SECOND DAY
Marcus Ehning started just like yesterday for Germany with his 13-year-old Holsteiner-bred Coolio 42 (Casalito – Anka VIII x Quidam de Revel, breeder: Martina Wirtz), producing another beautiful clear round. He set the tone right away for the rest of the riders.
Sophie Hinners pulled off a second beautiful clear round for Germany with her SWB-bred 11-year-old gelding Iron Dames Singclair (Singular LS La Silla – Curious Friday x Cardento, breeder: J. A. Wannius). Singular LS La Silla competed at the highest level with three different riders, including Maria Gretzer (who still has a soft spot for him) and Marcus Ehning. Hinners reflects on her round: “He jumped amazingly from the first to the last jump. He was super focused and really fought for me, so I am very satisfied. He gives me a lot of self-confidence with his rides. The highs and lows of this sport are very close to each other. I need to ride tomorrow just as I did today - a pole can fall down very quickly.”
The 12-year-old BWP-bred Otello de Guldenboom (Tobago Z – Caretina x Caretino, breeder: Hugo Versnick) delivered the third clear round for Germany under the saddle of Daniel Deusser, who says about Otello de Guldenboom: “I am delighted with my horse and my round. He tried his heart out again and jumped a fantastic clear round just as he did yesterday. This was important for our team; I did not want to leave all the pressure for Richard. It was nice that I could jump a clear round after we had already had two nice clear rounds. Otherwise, all the teams are very close together on points, so it was important that we maintained our position as the leading team. It is a very nice feeling here with the home crowd. You enter the arena and feel a lot of pressure, but coming over the last fence with a clear round gives you an incredible feeling.”
The pressure was taken off Richard Vogel, who completed the four clears for Germany with an effortless clear aboard his magnificent 14-year-old Westphalian-bred stallion United Touch S (Untouched – Touch of Class x Lux Z, breeder: Julius Peter Sinnack).
The day finished with 49 clear rounds of amazing sport. Yesterday's winner, Julien Epaillard, had two rails down today. A Championship is always different with the pressure and atmosphere.
Tomorrow is going to be another very exciting day of wonderful sport! HT
