ITALY'S GIACOMO BASSI WINS THE LOTTO CSIO4* SOPOT GRAND PRIX
Under the patronage of Wirtualna Polska, the most anticipated showjumping event of this year, the LOTTO CSIO4* Sopot 2025 — delivered exhilarating emotions expected from a Grand Prix. With a challenging course, fierce competition, and incredibly close competitions for victory, the show ensured that the Sopot audience will remember this afternoon for a long time.
The starting list featured 42 horse and rider combinations, including three Polish riders: Wojciech Dahlke, Wojciech Wojcianiec, and Michał Kaźmierczak. The competition was held at a height of 160cm, following a two-round format with a final jump-off for the best performers.
Designed by Course Designer Szymon Taranta, the first round demanded precision, courage, and skill from both riders and horses. Faults were frequent, and a flawless round was truly worth its weight in gold. Only eleven combinations advanced to the second round, without any Polish riders, despite high hopes and enthusiastic support from the large crowd.
The second round of the Grand Prix was the climax of sporting excitement. From the final four competitors, each took the lead at different points, prompting applause and building tension in the stands. Ultimately, the victory went to Italian rider Giacomo Bassi on Cape Cod, who completed the course in 43.08 seconds — just fractions of a second ahead of the competition.
Second place was secured by Rik Hemeryck (Belgium) on Inoui du Seigneur with a time of 43.25 seconds, while third place went to Renee Ulvsbjerg (Denmark) on Celeste Balslev with a time of 43.29 seconds. Fourth place was claimed by Vanessa-Joy Nägele (Liechtenstein), and fifth went to Frederic Vernaet on Paulus-L, the winner of Saturday’s Ergo Hestia Cup. His time of 43.75 seconds highlights how tight the competition was—just 0.67 seconds off the podium.
We extend our gratitude to our title partner, LOTTO, whose support not only fosters the development of equestrian sport in Poland but also helps host world-class events. Thanks to their commitment, the Sopot hippodrome has once again become a stage for international sporting excellence.
Sopot, thank you for your incredible support.
