DANIEL COYLE ACES CSI3* PORSCHE GRAND PRIX IN A CORUNA
The Porsche Grand Prix brought a spectacular end to the second day of the CSI3* A Coruña, held at the Casas Novas Equestrian Center alongside the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship. The 3-star-show ended with a jump-off in which Irish rider Daniel Coyle won the class riding Daydream.
Following the trophy presentation for the Porsche Grand Prix, Coyle took a victory lap with his new Porsche Macan. The competition featured a demanding course with 1.55-meter-high jumps, and out of 32 combinations, only 6 qualified for the jump-off. Julia Bosch, CEO of Porsche Ibérica, presented the trophy.
Among those vying in the jump-off was local Spanish rider Javier González Fraga from A Coruña, riding his home-bred stallion ‘Sonic JGF’. Despite a fence down, he demonstrated strong performance against Olympic medallists.
Three riders completed the jump-off without penalties, with Coyle posting the fastest time. The Irishman, who also won Wednesday’s opening qualifier for the European Championship, delivered a spectacular round with ‘Daydream’ and clearing in 38.56 seconds.
Second place went to Abdel Saïd on Calvaro finishing in 39.13 seconds. The reigning Olympic champion, German rider Christian Kukuk, took third on his Chageorge, with a time of 41.89 seconds.
Two other Spanish riders, Carolina Aresu on Loretta H and Pello Elorduy on Flonflon, cleared the initial round fault-free but did not advance to the jump-off due to exceeding the time limit, incurring one time fault each.
An additional Caser Grupo Helvetia trophy was awarded to Javier González Fraga for his remarkable fourth-place finish, recognising him as the best-placed Spanish rider. The prize was presented by Eduardo Riesgo, Director of the Western Territorial Broker Network.
Movistar Trophy:
Saturday’s schedule at Casas Novas was dedicated exclusively to CSI3* events, beginning with the Movistar Trophy, a speed class contested by 24 combinations over 1.45-meter obstacles. Nine riders completed the course without penalties.
Spanish riders dominated the top positions in this event. The winner was Álvaro González de Zárate from Álava, riding the 8-year-old Cornet Esmeray PS. Guided by the technical director of Heras Horses & Events in Cantabria, González de Zárate executed a swift and precise round, finishing in 61.20 seconds—almost 4 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.
Julio Arias from Asturias finished second with Carambola, clocking in at 65.09 seconds, while Pello Elorduy was placed third on Champenoise de Rampan.
Three additional Spanish riders also completed the course without faults: Armando Trapote on Matilda, Iván Serrano on Porsche 911 M, and Carolina Aresu on Adje T.
The Movistar Trophy was presented by María Muñoz Ortega, Director of Major Clients and Multinationals, Industry, Services, and Retail at Telefónica España, accompanied by Álvaro Arrieta.
