SHOWJUMPING QUALIFICATION SYSTEM FOR THE LA28 OLYMPIC GAMES

The FEI has published the Olympic Qualification Systems for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games for the three official Olympic equestrian disciplines: showjumping, dressage, and eventing.

For showjumping, the leading Olympic discipline in Africa and the Middle East, what do athletes need to do to qualify?

TOTAL QUOTA PLACES:

- A total of 75 quota places are available in the discipline of jumping.

TEAM QUALIFICATION - 20 NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEES (NOCS), 60 ATHLETES):

- The USA is granted one team quota place as the host country.

- 19 team quota places will be allocated through various FEI Olympic Group Qualification Events. These FEI Olympic Groups are Groups A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

- Africa and the Middle East are FEI Olympic Group F.

- Teams consist of three horse-and-rider combinations.

KEY QUALIFICATION EVENTS:

- 2026 FEI Jumping World Championships (Aachen):

The seven highest-ranked teams (excluding the host country) will qualify.

- 2027 FEI Jumping European Championship (Waregem):

The three highest-ranked teams from FEI Olympic Groups A and/or B (not already qualified) will qualify.

- 2027 Pan-American Games (Lima):

The three highest-ranked teams from FEI Olympic Groups D and/or E (not already qualified) will earn a place.

Designated Olympic Qualification Events:

- The two best teams from Group C, Group F, and Group G, respectively (not already qualified), will qualify.

- The specific date and venue for this Group F Designated Olympic Qualification Event is yet to be announced by the FEI in 2027.

- Teams can also qualify through a higher-ranked event, for example, at the 2026 World Equestrian Championships in Aachen: a team will qualify if they are among the seven highest-ranked teams (excluding the host country, USA).

INDIVIDUAL QUALIFICATION (15 QUOTA PLACES):

- Only NOCs that have not accepted a team quota place are eligible for individual quota places.

- Each athlete can obtain a maximum of one individual quota place for their NOC.

Distribution Criteria:

- The two best-ranked riders (maximum one per NOC) from FEI Olympic Groups A, B, C, F, and G via the FEI Olympic Ranking for Jumping.

- The NOC of the highest-ranked rider on the overall FEI Olympic Ranking (excluding those already qualified through the Group Rankings).

FEI OLYMPIC RANKING:

The ranking will be limited to the fifteen best results per horse-and-rider combination in Olympic Ranking competitions.

The ranking period is from January 1 to December 31, 2027.
