GREGORY WATHELET WINS THE QUEEN’S CUP – FREIXENET TROPHY AT CSIO BARCELONA
Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet claimed victory in the Queen’s Cup – Freixenet Trophy – Generalitat de Catalunya Prize, the feature class of the third day at the CSIO Barcelona. Riding Double Jeu d’Honvault, Wathelet delivered a spectacular second round, stopping the clock in 45.91 seconds and finishing more than two and a half seconds ahead of his closest rival.
Germany’s Sophie Hinners, aboard Iron Dames Kaleni Jo, secured second place with a time of 48.25 seconds, while Italy’s Giulia Martinengo, with Coynor, claimed third in 49.06 seconds. Andalusian rider Carlos Bosch, on O’Balou van de Plataan Kar, was the only other competitor to complete the demanding winning round without penalties, finishing in a remarkable fourth place in 54.79 seconds.
During the class, the President of the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, received the Joaquín Calvo Award in recognition of the Council’s continuous support of the CSIO Barcelona and its role in promoting sport. The award was presented by Marga Ferrer-Dalmau, widow of Joaquín Calvo.
Marie Agathe Reznikoff Shines in the CaixaBank Trophy
France’s Marie Agathe Reznikoff, riding Cesario de Kreisker, triumphed in the CaixaBank Trophy, a two-round competition without a jump-off, and the second class of the day. Reznikoff was the fastest of the two riders to finish both rounds fault-free, clocking 45.93 seconds. Close behind her was Madrid’s Leticia Riva Gil, with Stella de Betze Z, who also produced a flawless performance in 46.35 seconds. Local rider Anna Villagrasa García, with Maxime, set the fastest overall time of 44.11 seconds but with four penalty points, finishing in third place.
Spotlight on Sunday’s Longines League of Nations™ Final
CSIO Barcelona reaches its grand climax on Sunday with the much-anticipated Longines League of Nations™ Final. From 12:00 h, the eight top national teams of the series, together with host nation Spain, will battle it out in the Olympic arena of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. The format features two rounds: in the first, four riders per team compete, with the best three scores counting. In the second round, starting at 14:45 h, three riders per team will return in reverse order of the standings from round one to decide the new champion. Germany, last year’s titleholder, will once again be the team to beat.
